DANCING MOOMINVALLEY -Contemporary Dance Theatre Performance

Choreography by Samuli Roininen, music by Heikki Mäenpää

Based on Tove Jansson’s book “The Tales from the Moominvalley”, The Dancing Moominvalley is a family dance adventure that begins with Snufkin’s search for his missing spring tune. The versatile Dancing Moominvalley ensemble leads the audience into a magical place of searching, learning and life’s little and big wonders.

The performance opens Jansson’s well known themes: invisibility, otherness and difference.

Visually spectacular, fully composed contemporary dance piece for the whole family has a new approach to the moomins but the themes are familiar to all of us who have read the books.

Tero Saarinen Company & Stravinsky Evening

When: May 26, 2010 8:00 pm

Acclaimed modern dance ensemble Tero Saarinen Company pays a visit to Shanghai and the Shanghai Expo with Stravinsky Evening (Petrushka/HUNT) at the Shanghai Centre Theatre on 26th of May. Tero Saarinen Company’s Stravinsky Evening features two powerful contemporary reinterpretations of Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s (1882-1971) classics: Petrushka and The Rite of Spring. Known for his works composed specifically for dance, Stravinsky was perhaps the most influential composer of the 20th century. Major choreographers all over the world have created their own responses to Stravinsky’s scores. Tero Saarinen is now widely considered to be the leading Stravinsky interpreter of his generation. Tero Saarinen Company’s Stravinsky Evening begins with Petrushka, an eternally moving triangle drama accompanied by exquisite live music. The performance ends with HUNT, Saarinen’s intensely powerful solo with its multilayered themes including masculinity and femininity, alienation and the fading of beauty. This masterpiece has moved audiences and critics worldwide: it has won prizes and award nominations equally for its choreography, innovative use of technology, and Tero Saarinen’s unforgettable interpretation.

Additionally, Tero Saarinen will hold for professional dancers the Master Class at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on the 24th of May. Saarinen will also be attending the Finland Day with an artist meet-and-greet on the 27th of May, courtesy of the City of Turku, the 2011 Capital of Culture.
